Was 1967 a good year in Champagne?

A published vintage chart rates Champagne 1967 65 out of 100. A difficult year, and most of the crop went into non-vintage blends rather than a declared vintage.

Frost damaged the vines and grey rot spread through the vineyards. Reporting on the 2010 harvest, the Union des Maisons de Champagne wrote that the rapid "tourne" it saw alongside that year’s rot had not been observed since 1967.

I couldn't believe how good it was. 1967? Even Big Boy was in shock that this was '6 star' Champagne. It was so fresh, so racy and so good in that Cristal way. Butterscotchy goodness combined with endless acidity and structure for a near religious experience.

Incredibly good with all the classic Cristal aromas. The only weak point is an aftertaste that is too short and flat to reach the normal level. Definitely the best wine of the vintage.
